Spark Plug & Coil

To remove the engine cover:

6 Spark Plugs BMW part number 12120022902 (NGK DCPR8EKP) - SHOP 6 Coils BMW part number 12131712219
- 3/8 ratchet driver
- 5/8 spark plug socket
- 10,13mm socket
- Torx 30
- short & long extension
- torque wrench
To remove the engine cover:
- remove strut brace
- remove cabin filter
- remove torx 30 bolts from inside cabin filter housing (pic below)
- remove wire cover from cabin housing
- remove 6 engine cover bolts
- remove oil cap
- remove vent hose
- Remove M engine cover. Be mindful of the rubber grommet in the right rear as well as the o2 sensor wires on the left rear
- You are now ready to remove coils. Don't forget to put your oil fill cap back on to avoid dropping anything into it.
- lift the coil clip strait up. As you do this the connector will remove itself from the clip.
- pull strait up on the coil using the connector, after connector is disconnected.
- sometimes i use a screwdriver to help as seen in the picture below
- you are now ready to use your 5/8 spark plug socket and long extension to remove the plug.
- be careful when re-installing your plugs. You want to put them in by hand to avoid any cross threading
- I use a tool made to avoid any cross-threading, seen in picture below
- torque your plugs to 22ft.lbs
- Install your new coils and you're done. (keep at least 2 old coils. Its always good to have one around when you need it)
